September 2023 Newsletter
September began with the Trimester 2 Open Day for Class 9 & 10.
The Parent Guardian Council & the Student Council organised Teacher’s Day for the first time, under the mentorship of our School Co-ordinator, Sr. Veronica Lepcha SJC. The Parent Guardian Council also mobilised their zones for a second round of Village Clean Up Drive that they started as part of the ‘Our Common Home, Our Shared Future’ Annual Interdisciplinary Project in June.
The Social Studies Team organised ‘Hamro Gaun: Model Gram Panchayat’ on the occasion of Founder’s Day - the Birth Anniversary of Fr. Edward McGuire SJ. Students from classes 5 and 6 represented their Houses, educating the school about the opportunity that the Panchayati Raj Institutions bring for our communities, especially since it was resurrected in the Hills after over 20 years. The Parent Guardian Council was invited as Special Guests for the occasion.
Our Class 10 students went on an Exposure Visit as part of the Adolescent Life Skill Education Program to The Salvation Army & Mary Scott Home and School for the Blind. They had deep interactions with the students and the teachers, played their instruments and sang together with them. They also visited the Sakya Monastery School and connected instantly with monks of all ages, even playing football with them.
Our Water & Sanitation Health (WASH) Campaign is in it’s last leg with the completion of the student washrooms and drinking water facilities. Our Health & Community Team have been spreading awareness among parents and students at Village Zone Meetings as well as through timetabled Health sessions in school. Students have been sensitised towards care for the washrooms, maintenance, usage and rules while using the washroom. They also conducted a Menstrual Hygiene survey with both girls and boys Class 6 upwards. Our older girls received training on use of the new Menstrual Hygiene facilities in the washrooms. Our older students conducted a WASH survey with our younger students as well, to learn of the WASH facilities at the homes of students.
Some of our students were invited to a Business Meeting at Sinclairs Hotel to talk about the school.
