Following our feast day celebrations, kindly graced by Fr. Oshish Tirkey SJ, we took advantage of the monsoons and organised a Campus Plantation drive involving students, parents and teachers from Classes LKG to 10 on three different Saturdays.
Our Parent Guardian Council and our Health & Community Team participated in a peace rally organised by the Kalimpong NGO Network in solidarity with the victims of the recent heinous crimes not far from home. Some representatives also participated in the Needs Assessment sessions conducted by Hayden Hall Institute. We have been spreading awareness on the ongoing Conjunctivitis outbreak.
Adolescent Life Skills Education and Staff Capacity Building is proceeding well with staff from the Lifeskills & Facilitation group having their monthly session and students of class 10, their fortnightly sessions.
Jerome Tamang, Sashi Rai and Jemma Lepcha participated in the Teacher’s Effectiveness Enhancement Program (TEEP) organised by the Jesuit Conference Secretariat for School Education.
The English Team organised a Junior Inter House Elocution Competition that introduced students to new poetry and poets.
The Social Studies Team organised ‘People First’ Mock Parliament with mentors from the four houses preparing their respective teams.
We celebrated Independence Day with a flag hoisting ceremony and speeches on themes around India, School and Fr. Edward McGuire SJ, our founder, since his death anniversary falls on the same day. Class 10 and our staff also offered prayers at Fr. McGuire’s place of rest at Manresa Jesuit Novitiate.
Rosa Kumai celebrated 25 years of service.
We welcomed our third volunteer, Ilka Sommer, through the diocese of Osnabrück. All volunteers have been placed with host families nearby and are already having a deep experience and exchange with the local culture and realities.
Classes 9 and 10 appeared for their Trimester 2 Written Evaluations.
There has been steady progress on the construction of the School Auditorium and Student Washrooms.
Anu and John Heyworth, educators from Pune/ Siliguri spent two days interacting with our teachers and students. We were also visited by the Archbishop of Dublin, Principal of the Theology School of Ireland as well as our well wishers from Trinity College Dublin.
Our Class 9 students attended an Inter School Elocution Competition organised by St. Joseph’s Convent as special guests. Our volunteer, Matthew Weindling adjudicated.
